Fun Fact: Hastings Junction (Aid Station 5 & 7) is located at a camping spot of the famous Donner-Reed Party as they anticipated another boggy flat crossing to reach the springs by Pilot Peak. Only 48 of 87 would eventually survive the trip through Utah, Nevada, and the Sierras on their journey to California. It was the yearning to follow this historic path that brought on the inception of the race.
