Fun Fact: The land on which Colt State Park is located used to be a farm owned by a wealthy lawyer named Samuel P. Colt. Although Mr. Colt died in 1921, it wasn’t until 1965 that the state of Rhode Island purchased the land for a park. The farm was used to breed prize winning Jersey cattle and Berkshire sows. The bronze bulls at the entrance of the park are one of the many structures left over from the estate.
